Education- Went to four schools named Allegheny College, Poland Academy, Albany Law School, Poland Seminary High School. In 1852 he enrolled in Poland Seminary High School. Then at the age of 17 he went to Allegheny College in Pennsylvania but dropped out because he got to ill. Then he went to other colleges. Then william didn't have enough money to afford college so he taught himself.
Family- Father named William Mckinley and his mothers name is Nancy Allison Mckinley. Had a total of 7 siblings which are 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Later on in his life William Mckinley life he found a wife named Ida Saxton. They both created two girls but both died when they were infants.
Background- Mckinley was born on January 29, 1843 in Niles, Ohio. William lived there until at age 10 William moved to Poland, Ohio. When the Civil War started, William joined the Twenty-third Ohio Volunteer Infantry. During the war, the young private proved himself a valiant soldier on the battlefield, especially at the bloody battle of Antietam. As a commissioned officer, Second Lieutenant McKinley served on the staff of Colonel Rutherford B. Hayes, future President of the United States. His relationship with Hayes, whom he considered his mentor, remained constant throughout his life. He ended his four-year stint in the Army as a brevet major, gaining a title that would stay with him throughout his political career.
